T-mobile 5g Home Internet is a hardware-locked plan, so you cannot move the sims card out into whatever device you wish to use it. So if T-mobile ever upgrades its network tech to support massive MIMO deployments on a tower, you will need to see what T-mobile will allow you to upgrade to when that time comes. When you order T-mobile Home Internet, you will be provided with a T-mobile 5G router at no cost to the customer. It is yours to keep so long as when you stop paying for the service, you return the device or pay the hefty price of the Router (estimated to be over $300).

T-Mobile Moves to Clarify Service Portability

As of July 20th, 2022, T-mobile clarified the details about service portability where users signed up for the service—getting the device and traveling around with it as their primary “home” internet connection. T-mobile states that the device is only to be used at the place of its intended service address. If you move, you can call T-mobile and ask for a service address change. There are no reports of users getting kicked off the service for engaging in portability. Still, this change does not preclude that they won’t start informing customers only to use it at their service address or be subject to termination.
