“No bars, no problem!” says Xfinity Mobile

Xfinity Mobile

Xfinity Mobile is often overlooked as a viable carrier option, but the company is quickly making a name for itself. Xfinity Mobile offers competitive rates, a wide selection of plans, and an excellent hybrid network for its users. Xfinity has been expanding its network rapidly, which will only help its cause. Xfinity Mobile is worth considering if you’re looking for a low-cost carrier that provides excellent service.

What is Xfinity Mobile?

Xfinity Mobile, also known as Xfinity Wireless, is a low-cost carrier that offers a wide range of smartphone and tablet plans. The company was founded by Comcast Corporation, which designs, develops, and markets the Xfinity brand. Xfinity Mobile has several plans that are aimed at different groups of customers. The company offers a plethora of plans for its customers to choose from, including pre-paid options, family plans, and post-paid options. The company’s pre-paid plans provide a wide range of options, but the post-paid plans offer unlimited data.

How does it work?

Potential customers sign up for Xfinity mobile by deciding what they want to do with data first. Given how Xfinity on all their plans offer unlimited talk and text, the primary differentiator is how the users plan to pay for the data that they use. If a customer is price sensitive and does not use a lot of data, Xfinity mobile has you covered at $15/GB, so if you can keep most of your browsing on wifi, then this is the perfect pay-per-gigabyte pricing available. On the other hand, if you like unlimited data, Xfinity has plans for that too, but more on that later.

What are the benefits?

Xfinity mobile is a hybrid MNVO company that leverages the Xfinity hotspots that most people unknowingly run for Comcast. All modem rentals as default run a second SSID for Xfinity wifi hotspot. Not to worry, though, Comcast over-provisions users’ modems and diverts the over-provision bandwith to the Xfinity wifi network so it would not impact those who pay for internet service. There are thousands of Xfinity hotspots wherever Comcast has a footprint. As you walk down the street or go deep into buildings where you would otherwise not have a cell signal, you may still find an Xfinity hotspot. If you need tethering with your data you might want to look at other options.

Pricing and Plans

Xfinity Mobile Plans 2022

Xfinity mobile has pre-paid options and post-paid plans with some interesting caveats worth paying attention to if you make Xfinity mobile your carrier of choice—starting with the pre-paid plans. Pricing starts at $15/GB and keeps that pricing no matter how many GBs you plan to use. The pricing is reasonable if you use a small amount of data each month. However, if you use more than 1GB, it’s costly on a per GB basis vs. their post-paid plans that offer unlimited data at $45 per month for the first line you sign up for. As usual with most carriers, the more lines you sign up for, the cheaper the per line basis each line becomes. All plans have a hidden “got ya” requirement: you must maintain an Xfinity home or business internet connection. So if you travel a lot you might want to consider other options.

Xfinity Mobile Features 2022

The truth about “Unlimited”:

Xfinity mobile requires that the user maintain a post-paid Comcast data service as a pre-condition for having Xfinity mobile. This harkens back to Xfinity mobile’s hybrid nature, where they leverage their Xfinity hotspot network to supplement the agreements they have with their primary lte/5g network that they ride on. If customers on the unlimited data plans exceed 20 GB of their “premium” data, they get slammed with a heavy throttle that on the high end is 1.5mbps (aka excellent 3g) to as low as 600kbps (ouch!) for the rest of the time remaining on the month. Also, it’s worth mentioning that the 20 GBs is not a guarantee of premium data before throttling, as, during times of congestion, Xfinity customers will be de-prioritized compared to others using the same cellular network. If you upload a lot of data, you will need to know that all uploads are over 4g/LTE. Even if you are on a 5g network with multi gigabits per second, the upload will be capped to 4g speeds.

Is Xfinity Mobile right for you?

If you are an existing Comcast subscriber and wish to have your cell service in one bill, then Xfinity mobile is a good choice. Xfinity Mobile offers a good selection of phones and plans for prospective customers. Xfinity Mobile offers coverage in places other carriers cannot penetrate, such as large stadiums and deep-in-office buildings. By bundling Xfinity mobile with a Comcast internet connection, Xfinity mobile provides a tangible advantage for customers by having their billing unified each month. If you require tethering or hotspots, Xfinity mobile may not be for you. Check out our other articles here.
